唸音

This sewer makes no sewer, just as the sower makes no shower.  This sewer sewed buttons with cotton, that sewer serves soups of mutton, and all the sewers make a sewerage that drains sewage gotten and forgotten.

〔中譯〕 這位針線工不做下水道，正如播種者不造指示器。這位針線工用棉線縫鈕釦，那位膳僕供上羊肉湯，而所有的下水道造成一個下水道系統，以排出得到又忘掉的汙水。

〔注解〕

1. sewer 唸 時，為「針線工、縫紉師」，唸 時為「(中古時那種) 供膳侍食的僕人」，或「下水道、陰溝」。

2. sower 唸 ，為「播種者」或「播種機器」。

3. shower 唸 時為「陣雨」，唸 時為「指示者、導覽者 (=exhibitor)」或「指示器、標示物」。 sowers (播種者) 撒種子 (seeds)，並不會造成一般的陣雨 (showers)，但會造成 showers of seeds (種子雨)。不過，播種者通常不會製造「指示或標示的人或物」。

4. cotton 指「棉花 (樹)」或「棉線」(= cotton thread 或 sewing cotton)。

5. “serve” 有時專指「發球」、有時專指「供上 (食物)」。

6. sewerage 是「下水道」(sewers) 的集合名詞，sewage 則指下水道中的「污水、污物」。

7. drain 是「排掉、弄乾」。

8. gotten and forgotten：被得到而又被忘掉的。
