[J-143] A Master Strategist
The new people next door were scarcely moved in when I found some of their mail pushed through my letter slot. I took it over to them and, in the process, made their acquaintance.
A day or so later I saw another neighbor carrying mail to their house. The following morning I chided the postman for his carelessness. “Did you get to know the people?” he asked, his eyes twinkling.
“Yes,” I replied. “They're a nice couple.”
“Best way I know for people to get acquainted,” he said.
注: next door (隔壁), scarcely... when... 就…), letter slot (在信箱 letter box 上方的狭长缝口), make acquaintance = get acquainted (结识,熟悉), chide (责骂)。
