[J-18] A Forgetful Couple 健忘的一对
A couple was out when the wife suddenly cried out, “Goodness me! I forgot to turn off the stove. The gas must be still burning. What shall we do if a fire breaks out?”
The husband thought about it for a while, then consoled her with complacency, “Don't worry. I, too, forgot to turn off the faucet. The kitchen must be filled with water now. The water can put out any fire.”
[译注] 一对夫妻在外头，突然间太太大喊说：「天啊！我忘了关火炉。瓦斯一定还在烧着。我们怎么办呢？要是火灾发生的话。」 先生想了一会儿，然后自得地安慰她：「别担心。我也忘了关水龙头。现在厨房必定注满了水。水会熄灭火灾的。」
注：Goodness me! (天啊 = Goodness gracious!)， console (安慰)，complacency (自得、沾沾自喜)，faucet (水龙头)。
