She was the dawn, Aurora being her Roman name.   She had many lovers, including Tithonus, upon whom she begged Zeus to bestow immortality.   As she had forgotten to beg for eternal youth, too, Tithonus lived on and on and shriveled day by day until he had no vigor left except for an old man's shrill chirping.   At last, she did not regret to let him turn into a cicada.
