She was daughter of Aeëtes, king of Colchis. When the Argonauts came to Colchis to obtain the Golden Fleece, Medea fell in love with Jason and helped them accomplish their task. Back in Iolcus Medea by a ruse tricked the daughters of Pelias into killing their father. When Jason sought to replace her as his wife with Glauce, Medea murdered Glauce and the children Medea had by Jason as well. Later, she married King Aegeus and attempted to get him to kill his son Perseus. Aegeus drove her out. But because she had repulsed the advances of Zeus, Hera made her immortal.
