He was the hero of the first part of the Nibelungenlied.   Like Achilles, he was invulnerable in all but one place on his body.   In Siegfried this was a spot between the shoulder blades on which a leaf had fallen as he was bathing in the blood of the dragon Fafnir, which he had slain.   Brunhild discovered the secret spot of his invulnerability and had him murdered by Hagen.

         註：Nibelungs 是一矮人族，他們擁有寶藏。Nibelungenlied 是十三世紀的日耳曼敘事詩，敘述的便是 Nibelungs 人因寶藏而衍生的故事。

2.      “Like Achilles, he was invulnerable in all but one place on his body”：像 Achilles ㄧ樣，他身上除了一個地方之外，他是全身都不會受傷。 “invulnerable”：不會受傷、刀槍不入。 “but” =  except。

3.      “In Siegfried this was a spot between the shoulder blades”：在Siegfried身上，這就是兩個肩胛骨之間的一點。 “shoulder blades”：肩胛骨。

4.      “on which a leaf had fallen as he was bathing in the blood of the dragon Fafnir, which he had slain”：在那 (點) 上面，有一片葉子落下來，當他浸浴在 Fafnir 那隻他殺死的龍的血中時。葉子遮住的地方，沒有浸到龍血，故那地方無法刀槍不入。

5.      “Brunhild discovered the secret spot of his invulnerability and had him murdered by Hagen”： Brunhild 發現他刀槍不入的秘密的地方，而令他被 Hagen 殺死。

    按：Siegfried 假扮成他妻舅 Gunther，替他贏得 Brunhild 而讓他娶到她。後來 Brunhild 知悉此事後，懷恨 Siegfried，而叫 Gunther 的部屬 Hagen 殺死他。
