She was a Nereid.   It was decreed by fate that she should bear a son who would be mightier than his father.   Both Zeus and Poseidon desired her, but the gods gave her to Peleus, by whom she bore Achilles.   It was at their wedding that Eris, the goddess of discord, flung down the famous golden apple which eventually caused the Trojan War.

1.      “She was a Nereid”：她是ㄧ個女海神。註：Nereid  (尼瑞伊德) 共有五十個，是Nereus 和 Doris 所生，她們與 Tritons (男海神) 侍候 Poseidon。
