Son of Cronus and Rhea, he was the supreme deity in Greek mythology, his Latin name being Jupiter. He was reared in a secret cave on Mount Ida and suckled by a she-goat. When he reached maturity, he overthrew his father and established the rule of the Olympian gods. Originally he was a rain god. He came to be the god of the sky, with his thunder and thunderbolt.
