He was a friendly Centaur to man, being the tutor of Jason, Hercules, and Achilles.   But he was accidentally struck by one of Hercules' poisoned arrows.   It brought him never-ending pain since he was immortal.   Finally he became Sagittarius, the constellation of the archer, in the brightest part of the Milky Way.
