Agamemnon. Her father came to ransom her but was rudely rejected. Apollo, offended at this slight to his priest, sent a plague to scourge
the Grecian camp. Finally, Agamemnon had to give her up and took the
maid Briseis, in compensation, from Achilles. That, in turn, caused Achilles's wrath, which became the theme of Iliad.
