[J-100]   The Roasted Goose

           烤熟的呆鹅 

 

Arriving late for a holiday dinner, a guest found a seat reserved for him near the head of the table, where a goose was being carved.  Ah, he commented, so I'm to sit by the goose.  But noticing the lady seated on his left, he hastened to make amends.  I mean, he smiled at her apologetically, the roasted one, of course.

吃假日晚餐到达得太晚,某客人看到一个座位保留给他,在接近桌子前头的地方,而在那里有一只鹅正被切刮着。「啊,」他评论说,「所以我要坐在这只鹅的旁边。」不过,当注意到有位女士坐在他左边时,他急忙修正。「我的意思是,」他道歉地向她微笑,「当然是指烤熟的那只。」
