A: How did you get elected to Congress? B: I ran against the incumbent Congressman. A: But the party machine was against you. How did you manage to win? B: Well, I guess everyone who knew me voted for him, and everyone who knew him voted for me--and he knew more people.
[译注] A: 你怎么会被选到国会去? B: 我竞选时反对现任的国会议员。 A: 可是党机器反对你,你怎么设法赢的? B: 呃,我猜认识我的人都投给他,而认识他的每个人都投给我--而他认识的人比较多。
注:run (竞选),incumbent (现任的、在职的),manage to (设法...),vote for (投给)。
