Nurse: Here is a letter from your friend. Patient: Please read it aloud for me. You know I am too weak to do anything. Nurse: Your friend says he is sorry he cannot come to see you. He says he is really too busy to have any free time. But, he adds, he will manage to come if you are passing away. And he will certainly attend any service in case you have passed over to the great majority.

注：1. pass away = pass out : 逝世。 2. pass over to the (great) majority = join the (great) majority : 仙逝。自古以来死去的人远比目前活着的人多，故「死人」是「多数」 (the majority) ，而「加入」 (join) 或「走过去到」 (pass over to) 「大多数」 (the great majority) 的那一边，便是「死亡」。 3. service : 弥撒，礼拜 (仪式)。
