One day a mother rat went for an outing with her baby rats. As they rambled to a paddyfield, they suddenly saw a monstrous cat heading straight for them. All frightened, the baby rats soon hid themselves, shuddering and dumbfounded, behind their mother. Right at the critical moment, the mother rat was heard, miraculously, to bark and bay and growl quite like a dog. On hearing the sound and fury, the cat slipped away at once without daring to advance further. When clear of the cat, the mother rat remarked: “Dear brats, now you see the good use of learning a foreign language.”
