He was king of the Lapithae.   He avoided paying bridal gifts by luring his father-in-law into a pit filled with burning charcoal.   Zeus brought him to a celestial banquet on Olympus.  But he repaid Zeus by planning to seduce his wife.   Knowing this, Zeus substituted a cloud for Hera.   Ixion then begot the Centaurs upon the cloud.  Finally, Zeus had him bound to a fiery wheel which turns forever.
