唸音

She was daughter of Pandion, king of Athens.   Her sister Procne was wife to Tereus, king of Thrace.   Procne begged Tereus to invite Philomela to visit her.   Tereus agreed and went to Athens to fetch Philomela.   On the way back to Thrace, Tereus raped the beautiful Philomela and cut out her tongue lest she should reveal what he had done to her.   While shut up, Philomela wove a wondrous tapestry on which the whole account of her mishap was unfolded.   When Procne got the piece of embroidery, she read with horror what had happened.   Then she killed the child Itys whom she had borne to Tereus, and served the cooked limbs of the child to Tereus for supper.   The two sisters then fled, pursued by Tereus.  Finally the gods changed Procne into a nightingale (forever singing her sweetest but saddest song), Philomela into a swallow (that can only twitter for lack of a tongue), and Tereus into a hawk-like ugly bird with a huge beak.
