He was a grandson of Aeolus, god
of the Winds. He was carried off by Aurora, goddess of the Dawn, when
he was married only a few weeks with Procris. But he remained faithful
to Procris. When Aurora at last dismissed him, she told him to go back
and see if his wife had been as true to him as he to her. Back home
after eight years, Cephalus did want to test his wife's chastity. He
disguised himself as another man and came to woo her. Yet Procris did
not give in. She only hesitated a little for a time, but that was
enough for Cephalus to proclaim her a traitor.
