An old man, bereft of his spouse, took a young woman as his second wife. One day, the old man saw his young wife knitting her brows quite unhappily. So he asked, “Do you regret that you have married an old weakling?”
“No, my only regret is that I was born too late to have met you when you would still have been such a daring darling.”
[译注] 有个老人，丧了配偶，娶一个年轻的女人当第二任妻子。有一天，那老人看到他年轻的妻子皱着眉头很不快乐的样子。他于是问说：「你后侮你嫁给了一个年老虚弱的人吗？」
「不，我惟一的悔恨是：我生得太晚，没办法遇到你时你还是那么勇猛的达伶。」
注：(be) bereft of somebody (丧失了某人)，knit one's brows (皱眉)，weakling (没力气或心志不强的人)，daring (大胆的、勇敢的)，darling (亲爱的人)。
