An erudite scholar was noted for his recondite thoughts. One night, he was at his friend's house when it came on to rain heavily. His friend, naturally, invited him to stay overnight and he accepted the invitation gladly. But then he suddenly disappeared from the house unnoticed. When he appeared again, he was drenched. He explained: “Men are unlike cats or dogs. When it rains cats and dogs, civilized men need even more badly to put on pajamas to go to bed. That's why I went all the way back home to fetch my pajamas for the night here.”
