Walking alone on a deserted street, a tightwad met with a mugger. The robber stuck a gun in his ribs, demanding, “Your money or your life!” Instead of immediately replying “Take my money, but spare my life”, the tightwad paused for a long while, uttering no word.
“Well?” the impatient gunman urged. “I'm thinking it over. I'm thinking it over.” “Still thinking?” “Yes, I haven't figured out how much I'm bringing with me.”
[译注] 独自走在没人的街道上,某吝啬鬼遇上一个强盗。强盗把枪抵住他腰间,强问说:「要钱或要命!」 并没立刻回说「拿走钱,留我命吧」,这吝啬鬼停了好长一段时间,没讲出半句话。
