Crossing the street one morning, I was nearly run down by an antiquated car literally overflowing with about a dozen children. Since the red light had been against the woman driver, as she came to a halt I shouted: “Lady, don't you know when to stop?”
Glancing back at the moppets, she answered icily, “They aren't all mine.”
[译注] 某天早晨过街时，我差点被一辆古董车撞到，那车子真正溢满着约一打的小孩。因为红灯阻止那位女驾驶，所以她停了下来时，我喊说：「女士，难道你不晓得停吗？」 匆匆往后略看一下那些娃儿们，她冰冷地回说：「他们并非全是我的。」 注： antiquated (古老的)， literally (实在地、不夸张地)， overflow (溢满)， be against (反对、不满、阻挡)， halt (停止)， glance (匆匆略看)， moppet (布偶、小娃儿)。 该女士以为人家说她不晓得停止生小孩。
