[J-73] The Hat Is the Man 帽即人
A university has an unwritten agreement: if the professor is late for more than ten minutes, the class is automatically dismissed. One morning, a professor came to class before the time. He took his hat off and put it on the lecturer's desk. Then he went off. At 9:12, i.e., twelve minutes after the time, he came back and found the class “automatically dismissed.” The next time he met the class, the professor proclaimed in a thundering voice, “Where there is the hat, there is the man.”
The next week, when the professor came to the same class on time, he found the classroom was again empty except for 28 hats on 28 desks.
[译注] 某大学有个不成文的规定：如果教授迟到超过十分钟，课堂就自动解散。某天早上，
有位教授提前到课堂来。他脱去帽子，放在讲桌上，然后走掉了。在九点十二分时，也就是上课时间十二分钟后，他回来了，却发现课堂「自动解散」了。下一次会见班上时，这位教授便以雷霆的声音宣告说：「有那帽子，就有那人。」 下一周，当教授准时来到同一班时，他发现教室再度空无一人，只有二十八顶帽子放在二十八张书桌上。 注： dismiss (解散、下课)， proclaim (宣告)， where there is A, there is B (有 A 就有 B)， except for (除了…之外)。
