He was king of Argos and a great warrior in the Trojan War.   He fought personal combats with Hector and Aeneas, and even wounded the god Ares himself in the belly.   He also wounded Aphrodite in the hand.   But unlike Ares, who ran bellowing to Zeus, the goddess of love caused Diomedes' wife to desert him.   It was he and Odysseus that stole the Palladium from Troy, thus ensuring the fall of Troy.
