She was a daughter of Aeolus, god of the winds.   Her husband Ceyx, disregarding her entreaties for safety, sailed to Ionia and was shipwrecked.  He appeared all naked and dripping to her in a dream and told her of his death.   When she found his body at the seashore, she leaped into the sea to drown herself.   The gods, taking pity, changed her and Ceyx into kingfishers.   Thenceforth, each year for seven days prior to and seven days after the winter solstice, the winds ceased to blow so that the birds might hatch their eggs in the nests on the sea.

2.      Her husband Ceyx, disregarding her entreaties for safety, sailed to Ionia and was shipwrecked:她丈夫 Ceyx 不顾她恳求注意安全,航行到 Ionia 去,而被沉了船。 entreaty for safety:为安全所做的恳求。

    据说 Ceyx Ionia 是为了要问 Apollo 求神谕。

3.      He appeared all naked and dripping to her in a dream and told her of his death:他全身赤裸滴着水出现在梦中给她看而告诉她他的死亡。

4.      When she found his body at the seashore, she leaped into the sea to drown herself:当她发现他尸体在海岸时,她跳入海里要溺死自己。
