念音

He was the tutelary deity of the largest river in Greece.  In fighting against Hercules over the love of Deianira, Achelous changed first into a serpent and then into a bull.  Hercules broke off one of the bull's horns, and it became the cornucopia, a horn of plenty.

1.      tutelary deity= tutelary god:「守护神」。

2.      in fighting against over …”:「在对抗 因为 时」。英文「对抗某人」可用fight against sb. fight with sb. 而「为 而战」可用fight for …” fight over …” overquarrel over,”“cry over, weep over…” In the course of V-ing的省略,意为「在 时」,他例In coming home, he met the stranger(回家时他遇见此陌生人)

3.      changed first into a serpent and then into a bull:「先变成蛇再变成牛」。注意first and then 是「先 (然后) 」之惯用法。
